Mount Fuji, standing 3,776 meters tall as Japan's sacred peak. At the foot of this revered mountain, extraordinary tea is cultivated with ancient wisdom.
Pure spring water flowing from Mount Fuji, mineral-rich volcanic soil, and the temperature variations from high altitude—all harmonize to create an unparalleled depth of flavor found nowhere else.
Crystal-clear water filtered through volcanic rock layers infuses tea leaves with pure life force.
Mineral-rich earth formed by volcanic activity bestows deep body and umami to every tea leaf.
Temperature variations from high altitude strengthen tea leaves, developing intense and concentrated flavors.
「In each cup infused with Mount Fuji's sacred energy, both mind and body find purification」
Shizuoka Prefecture, Fuji City, Sakai district—walking a little from the terminal station of the Gakunan Electric Railway, you'll arrive at a small tea plantation spreading against the backdrop of the sacred Mount Fuji. This is Jurakuen, a family-run tea shop approaching its centennial. The tea garden, preserved through three generations, is now embarking on a new challenge of complete pesticide-free and chemical fertilizer-free cultivation.
What we pursued was 'a cup that is gentle to both body and environment.' Instead of chemical fertilizers, we incorporate homemade compost, and all weeds are removed by hand—this dedication to meticulous care has given birth to 'Fuji Matcha Kagayaki.'
Selecting only young leaves suitable for tencha, we concentrate umami through 21 days of shade cultivation. The tea leaves, after steaming and drying, are slowly ground by stone mills at the long-established Meiko Tea Industry, transforming into matcha with vivid green color and mellow sweetness.
Spring, when new buds sprout in the tea fields, and the wind rustles through them. The chirping of birds, Mount Fuji in the distance—because we want you to taste the entire landscape, Jurakuen sometimes opens tea picking and stone mill grinding experiences for those who wish. Freshly ground matcha enjoyed in the quiet countryside is exceptionally fragrant.
「Growing tea relying only on nature's power, without chemical fertilizers or pesticides—this was certainly not an easy path.」
「Manual weeding, managing homemade compost, dealing with weather. We had to learn everything from scratch. However, what we found at the end of this journey was a truly pure matcha flavor unlike anything we had tasted before.」
「The tea we produce contains the learning and joy gained from this challenge. We hope that everyone who drinks it can also feel that radiance.」
